Man voting for Good in the Hood

Z Energy (Z) has opened in-store voting for its annual Good in the Hood programme, to help customers have a say in how the $1 million will be shared with charities and community groups across the motu.

As part of Good in the Hood, each Z service station across Aotearoa New Zealand will give away a total of $5,000. Each of Z’s 189 service stations have whittled down an outpouring of nominations from locals to choose the charities, community groups/organisations, or projects per station to participate. Customers who shop in-store are given an orange token to pop in one of four boxes to vote for their favourite local group, with $4,000 per station split between participating groups based on the number of votes they receive.

A further $1,000 for each service station is earmarked to support community events and initiatives throughout the year.

Z, GM Customer, Andy Baird says that Good in the Hood supports local groups who often go unrecognised for the hard mahi they do. More than 700 small charities and neighbourhood organisations across the motu will receive a share of $1 million Z has allocated towards supporting communities this year.

“The spirit of Good in the Hood is to listen to our communities who can tell us best about where the money should go. To us, this is one of the best ways we can give back to the communities that, in turn, support our service stations, many of which are run by small business owners,” he says.

He encourages people to get in-store and vote for their favourite community group, before the voting period closes on 23 October.

After voting finishes and grants are handed out this year, Z will surpass the $10 million milestone in contributions to thousands of small community organisations and charities throughout Aotearoa New Zealand since 2011, largely enabled through its annual Good in the Hood programme.

The $10 million milestone represents Z Energy and Good in the Hood’s long-term commitment to helping Kiwis and what matters most to them.
