Good in the Hood is back!

August 14, 2026

Good in the Hood is back, with $1 million set to go to community groups making a difference across Aotearoa.

Every year, the programme helps connect our customers with the local organisations making a difference in their communities. What starts with a token at a Z service station becomes support for hundreds of groups helping people, strengthening connections, and making their communities better places to live.

Since launching in 2014, Good in the Hood has contributed more than $14 million into communities across New Zealand and supported 2,973 community groups. From volunteer emergency services and neighbourhood organisations to youth programmes, wellbeing initiatives, disability support services and organisations helping people through challenging times, the programme reflects the incredible diversity of community life across Aotearoa.

Haley Mortimer, GM Corporate Affairs at Z, says what makes Good in the Hood special is its local impact.

"For 14 years, Good in the Hood has helped communities support the causes that matter most to them. Behind every vote is a local organisation making a difference and people giving their time, energy and care to help others."

The programme continues to evolve alongside the communities it supports. In recent years, support for Māori-led and kaupapa Māori-led organisations has continued to grow, with funding to Māori-led groups more than doubling since 2022.

“While the numbers tell an important story, it's the impact behind them that matters most. Every community group is helping create opportunities, provide support, or strengthen connections for the people around them. We're proud to play a small part in supporting that mahi."

Voting opens for Good in the Hood 2026 next week, with Z continuing to back the people, projects and organisations helping build stronger communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

How to vote

  1. Get a token with every purchase at a participating Z station.
  2. Pick your favourite non-profit organisation or community group and place your token in their token box.
  3. Every token counts, so be sure to vote each time you visit.

How Good in the Hood works

  • Every participating Z station donates $5,000 to four local community groups. The share each group receives is determined by customer votes.
  • Each Z service station will give away an additional $1,000 to support neighbourhood events, projects and programmes. The recipient(s) of this funding will be determined by each Z service station.
