New Tauriko site supports one of New Zealand's fastest-growing regions

Z Energy (Z) has opened a new Z Truck Stop and self-service U-GO site in Tauriko, strengthening fuel infrastructure on one of the Bay of Plenty's key transport corridors and providing greater choice for customers.
Located near key transport routes linking Tauranga, Waikato and Auckland, the new site supports freight movements, regional growth and the local community by providing customers with convenient access to fuel.
The site opened to the public in early August, with the Z team today welcoming representatives from local mana whenua Ngai Tamarawaho, Bay of Plenty MP Tom Rutherford and customers to officially mark the opening and reflect on the investment and collaboration behind the development.
Tauriko is one of the Bay of Plenty's fastest growing commercial and industrial areas, with transport connections playing an important role in supporting freight operators, businesses and local communities.
The new site is one of several significant infrastructure investments Z is delivering in 2026 as it continues to invest in critical fuel infrastructure for Aotearoa New Zealand.
Z's General Manager Customer, Tim Bailey, says the investment reflects Z's commitment to investing in the fuel infrastructure its customers rely on.
"We’re investing in the fuel infrastructure that helps keep New Zealand moving. Tauriko is an important freight and commercial area, and this site ensures customers have access to the fuel infrastructure they rely on today and into the future."
"As the region continues to grow, we're focused on investing where our customers need us most. By bringing together a Z Truck Stop and U-GO in one location, we're able to provide greater choice through facilities designed to meet different customer needs."
The site has been built to serve both commercial transport operators and everyday motorists. The Z Truck Stop features three refuelling lanes with high-flow commercial pumps and AdBlue available at every lane, supporting the efficient movement of heavy vehicles. The adjacent U-GO site offers self-service 91, 95 and diesel fuel, providing a convenient option for motorists travelling through the area.
National Road Carriers Chief Executive Justin Tighe-Umbers welcomed the opening, saying, “Reliable access to fuel is critical for freight operators who keep goods moving around the country. The new Z Truck Stop in Tauriko is a welcome addition to a growing transport corridor and will help improve convenience and efficiency for operators travelling through the Bay of Plenty, while giving NRC members greater choice through our partnership with Z.”
Tim says reliable fuel infrastructure will remain critical to supporting freight, logistics and regional economies, even as transport energy needs evolve over time. He says the successful opening reflects the dedication of everyone involved, including lead contractor Cassidy Construction.
“Their efforts have been key in delivering an investment that will support both the region’s transport sector and the wider Tauriko community for years to come.”
