Z Energy and NZ Police partnering up to keep Kiwis safe

Safety and wellbeing June 3, 2022

This Queen’s Birthday weekend, Z Energy (Z) and the New Zealand Police are partnering up to encourage drivers to keep safe on their journeys no matter where they are headed this long weekend.

Police Superintendent Steve Greally, Director of the National Road Policing Centre, says we know there are more people travelling on the road during long weekends, and that increase in road users means an increase in the potential for mistakes to be made.

“We saw the terrible result of that last Anzac weekend where 12 people lost their lives. And the harm doesn’t end there. We know that on average, for every person who dies on the road, another seven are seriously injured. That’s why we continue to urge people to drive and ride safely on the road.”

Z service stations across the country will be sharing road safety messages on the front of their retail sites and on coffee sleeves to remind drivers to: ‘Always wear your seatbelt’, ‘Slow Down, Arrive Alive’ and ‘Drive without distraction’.

Z’s General Manager of Retail Andy Baird recognises the important role Z can play in reaching many Kiwis on the move this long weekend, given its large network of retail sites which stretch the entire length of the country.

“With 193 Z sites located from the top of the North to the bottom of the South, we will be a key stop on many people’s journey. We’re proud to be partnering with Police to help keep our communities safe by using our retail network as a way of reaching drivers as they fill up, grab a bite to eat, or stop for a coffee on the way to their end destination.”

“It’s great to see companies wanting to play a part in road safety. We are really happy to partner with Z to get these safety reminders out there far and wide. It could save a life,” says Superintendent Greally.
