Z App terms and conditions
By accessing and using any version of our App or any related services, you accept the following terms and conditions. Please read these terms carefully. They make a legally binding contract with you (the person or organisation using and accessing the App) and us (Z Energy Limited, NZ company no. 12046).
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the App or these terms and conditions, please contact us.
Accessing and using the Z App
In this section, we explain how you can download and start using our App.
Signing up to the App
To use the App, you must download the App from the app store and follow the set-up process described in the App. You will need to have an active internet connection. Your mobile device will need to use a software version that supports the App.
Your account
You may only have one App account at any time. You are not allowed to hold multiple accounts.
Responsibility for your account and passwords
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. You are responsible for protecting your passwords and other private user credentials and for any usage of your user credentials. You are also responsible for ensuring your mobile device is secure against unauthorised use. You must notify us immediately on becoming aware of any actual or suspected unauthorised use of your account.
Age restriction
To use the App, you must be over the age of 16.
Versions of the App
At times, we may have more than one version of Z App available (for example, when rolling out an update of Z App). New versions of Z App may not contain all features outlined in these terms. If you are using more than one version of Z App at a time, your account balances and entitlements remain as recorded on your account and are not accumulated across versions. The terms are amended as necessary to give effect to this.
Z App do’s and don’ts
This section outlines what you can and can’t do with our App. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our App ‘ground rules’.

We may collect precise or approximate location data from your mobile device (regardless of whether the App is running in the background or foreground of your mobile device) if you have enabled us to do so. You may enable or disallow us to collect such location data by following the process described in the App. However, this may affect some functionality available in the App.

Payment cards
Some features of the App (including EV Charging, pay by plate, pay in app, Sharetank and the pre-order coffee feature) can only be used if you input credit, debit or other payment card details. We explain more about this in the EV Charging, pay by plate, pay in app, and pre-order coffee sections of these terms.
Who holds payment card information?
When you input your payment card data into the App, it will be provided to Worldline, who securely hold the details on their system.
We will never see nor store the details of your payment cards – such details are collected, stored, and processed by Worldline through their ‘Click’ service. For further information regarding Worldline, and how it encrypts and processes our App transactions, see the Worldline website.

General terms
This section outlines some important legal terms, including when we can change these terms, the App, and what we will be responsible for if things go wrong.
Changes we can make to these terms
The App will evolve over time as we continue to improve our service.
IMPORTANT
We may change these terms from time to time. The changes will take effect when we publish them on the Z website. By continuing to use the App, you’ll be taken to have accepted the latest version of these terms, and it’s up to you to check for any changes. Remember, if you don’t agree with our terms at any point, you can cease to use the App and the services or products you access through the App, request to close your account, and delete the App.
Changes we can make to the App
We may change the format and content of the App at any time. We may suspend the operation of the App for support or maintenance work, in order to update the content, or for any other reason. Where a scheduled outage will occur for an extended period of time, we will endeavour to provide you with reasonable notice via the email used to register for Z App and/or (if enabled) a Z App notification.
Additional terms may apply
Additional or special terms may apply to specific products or services or online tools provided through the App. If there is any inconsistency between these terms and the product, service, or tool-specific terms, the product, service or tool-specific terms will prevail.
Intellectual property rights
The App contains material which is protected by intellectual property rights. All intellectual property rights in the App are either owned by us or are used by us under licence.
Links to third-party websites
The App may include links to external websites. We do not endorse or assume any responsibility for the content of those links.
Sharing the Z App with others
You can invite as many people as you like to download the Z App by sending a unique code to an invitee. The invitee can then enter their unique code when they sign up to the Z App. You must not charge any sort of fee or price to an invitee. For the first three invitees who enter their unique code from you into the Z App you will get a voucher in the App for a free Z hot drink on us. Any vouchers issued to you in the App prior to 30 September 2024 will expire at 11:59pm on 31 October (irrespective of the date of issue). Any vouchers issued in the App on or after 1 October 2024 will expire 90 days from date of issue. Vouchers are not exchangeable for cash.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App
We may terminate or suspend your access to all or part of the App at any time if we reasonably suspect or have evidence of misuse of the App, without giving you notice. We do not need to give you a reason for any termination or suspension.
Our liability
We try to ensure that all information provided in the App is correct but we don’t guarantee its accuracy.
IMPORTANT
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any action you may take as a result of relying on such information or advice, or for any loss or damage suffered by you or any third party as a result of you or a third party taking this action.
To the extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any loss or damage (direct or otherwise) you or any third party suffer in connection with the use of the App or the use of, or reliance on, content contained in or accessed through the App. To the extent permitted by law, we also exclude any condition or warranty that could be implied into these terms.
You acknowledge that the limitations of Z’s liability in these App Terms are fair and reasonable given the App is provided to you for free.
IMPORTANT
Some laws contain non-excludable warranties, guarantees or other rights. For example, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 permits the recovery of consequential loss in some circumstances. These terms do not in any way exclude or restrict any non-excludable or modifiable statutory rights or benefits you may have.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable to you for any failure or delay in performance of our obligations under these terms arising out of any event or circumstance beyond our reasonable control.
What if the App goes down?
Like any online service, we cannot guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free. It is up to you to take any precautions necessary to ensure you do not incur losses or costs if the App is affected by an interruption or error.
You must always have a means to pay for your Fuel purchase that does not involve using the App, just in case the App is unavailable.
No warranty
We make no representations and give no warranties that the App will be:
- capable of running on your iPhone, iPad, Android device, or other computer equipment and software
- free from technical glitches, computer viruses, worms, software bombs, Trojan horses or similar items
IMPORTANT
To the extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for loss, corruption of, or damage to data, or viruses or similar items that may infect your iPhone, iPad, Android device, or other computer equipment and software due to your use of the App.
Consumer Guarantees Act and Fair Trading Act
To the extent that you are in trade, and are using the App in trade, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply. We do not provide any express guarantees in relation to the App, other than as expressly set out in these terms. To the extent that you are in trade, and are using the App in trade, you agree that:
- in accepting these terms you have not relied on any representations or other conduct by us;
- along with our privacy policy, these terms are the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of the Z App and supersede all previous agreements; and
- to the extent necessary to give effect to the two points above, you agree to contract out of section 9, 12A, and 13 of the Fair Trading Act 1986
The terms under this heading will apply only if and to the extent that it is legally permitted to contract out of the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or Fair Trading Act 1986, as applicable. In all other respects, your rights under those Acts remain unchanged.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Z EV Charging special terms
We offer EV Charging services, which can be accessed through the App. This section describes how to use the EV Charging services, and other important terms of use.
EV Charging
By using our EV chargers or any related services (EV Charging), whether through the App, or a physical card or token that is linked to your account (a Charge Tag), you accept the terms under this section headed “Z EV Charging special terms”. These special terms form part of the App terms.
When we refer to you in this section, we mean the individual that is using the EV Charging feature in the App or a Charge Tag, or any related service. When we refer to a device, we mean any eligible device that you use to access EV Charging.
Additional terms may apply to EV Charging, such as terms for a particular event, activity, promotion or referral credit. Any such additional terms will be disclosed to you in connection with your EV Charging. The additional terms will form part of these terms.
Your use of EV Charging may also be subject to the terms of your agreement with other third party service providers (such as your payment method provider (for example your bank) and data service provider), which will apply in addition to these terms.
Accessing and using EV Charging
To use EV Charging, you must register for, and maintain, an account on the App. You must also add a payment method, such as a credit card or debit card onto your account (Payment Method). You can then use our, or our approved third-party providers (Third Party Providers), electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to charge an EV. An up-to-date list of the EV charging stations that are available for use with EV Charging is available on the App (Applicable Charging Stations).
When you authorise a charger to start (either through the App, a Charge Tag or remotely), you authorise us to charge your Payment Method for all amounts payable by you following your use of EV Charging.
Paying for EV Charging
You must pay charges to us when you use EV Charging to charge an EV at Applicable Charging Stations (Charges).
The Charges will be debited from your Payment Method immediately following your use of EV Charging. If your Payment Method is declined by the card issuer or bank, we may at our discretion attempt to debit the Charges from your Payment any number of times. If payment for any Charges fails, your ability to use EV Charging may be suspended until we have successfully debited your Payment Method for the Charges. If you fail to pay for any Charges due in connection with your account within 7 days, you acknowledge that we may pass any debts to an external debt collection agency.
The Charges, and any other amounts payable by you under these Z EV Charging special terms, are stated and payable in New Zealand dollars and are inclusive of GST (if any).
Different Charges may apply to your use of EV Charging (for example in respect of different geographical areas or different Applicable Charging Stations). We may establish, remove and/or revise the Charges for EV Charging at any time. Charges for EV Charging are displayed for each charge point within the App in the list of Applicable Charging Stations. If the App is down, pricing can be found on the Z website.
Charges from your Payment Method for the purposes of EV Charging are non-refundable. In the event of any disputed or unauthorised transactions, or if you believe a reasonable circumstance exists and you would like to request a refund, please contact us at EVsupport@z.co.nz immediately.
Rewards on EV Charging
EV Charging is excluded from all our loyalty and rewards programmes (including Flybuys, Airpoints and Pumped programme discounts).
Charge Tags
You can allow other people to use your Charge Tag, but you agree you are responsible for all Charges to your Payment Method resulting from any other person using your Charge Tag.
You are responsible for the physical security of your Charge Tag. Any person with your Charge Tag may be able to use EV Charging. You must tell us by contacting us at EVsupport@z.co.nz immediately once you’re aware that your Charge Tag has been lost, stolen or used by a person not authorised by you. You will be liable for any Charges to your Payment Method occurring before we are notified of the loss, theft or misuse of your Charge Tag.
You acknowledge that your Charge Tag remains our property, and you agree that you will, at your cost, return your Charge Tag to us at any time if we request it (for example, if your Charge Tag is temporarily deactivated, permanently cancelled, or your account is closed). You agree that we may require you to pay a charge if you request a replacement Charge Tag.
Connection for EV Charging
You are responsible for obtaining a mobile device, data, a network connection and any other requirement necessary for you to use EV Charging. We do not guarantee that EV Charging, or any part of EV Charging, will function on any particular hardware or mobile device. You are responsible for all costs, problems, conditions, delays, delivery failures and all other loss or damage arising from or relating to your mobile device, network connection or telecommunications links, or caused by the internet.
You acknowledge that Applicable Charging Stations and EV Charging may be provided by us or by our Third Party Providers. You may also be able to access and use third-party products, services and content as part of EV Charging (for example Google Maps). Any such third-party products, services and content are subject to the terms and conditions set by their providers. We do not endorse or assume any responsibility for third-party products, services or content, or your use of such third-party products, services or content.
Your use of EV Charging
You are solely responsible for ensuring that your EV is in good order and repair such that it does not pose any danger to EV Charging, to any other person (including you) or to any person’s property in connection with your use of any Applicable Charging Stations. You must use EV Charging in a proper and safe manner, and must ensure that your use of EV Charging does not pose any danger to yourself, others, the charger, or the Applicable Charging Station. You agree not to do anything or to act in any manner that could impair the operation of the EV Charging services or the Applicable Charging Station.
You will comply with the manufacturer’s instructions in relation to your vehicle. We do not guarantee the compatibility of our EV chargers with your vehicle and you are solely responsible for ensuring compatibility of your vehicle with our EV chargers. In particular, you must ensure that your vehicle is capable of handling high speed charging. Without limiting the liability provisions below, to the maximum extent allowable by law, Z will not be liable to you for any loss or damage to your EV or other property that arises due to incompatibility of your vehicle with our EV chargers.
IMPORTANT! Some plug in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) may not be capable of handling high speed charging and may suffer damage if charged with a high speed charger.
You must comply with our (or our Third Party Providers’) reasonable instructions when you access and use EV Charging, including those instructions set out on any signage at an Applicable Charging Station. You agree that you will not use EV Charging services or park your vehicle in a charging bay at an Applicable Charging Station for any purpose except for charging an EV that is compatible with EV Charging.
You must ensure that the charging cable is safely plugged into your vehicle in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions in relation to your vehicle, and that the positioning of the charging cable does not create any risk to the health and safety of other people at the Applicable Charging Station or nearby. You agree that you will not use any charging cable that is, or appears to be, damaged, faulty, or modified in any way.
You agree that, after your EV has finished charging, you will promptly remove your vehicle from the Applicable Charging Station. If you do not promptly remove your vehicle from an Applicable Charging Station after your EV has finished charging, you acknowledge that we may debit an overstaying charge from your Payment Method, and/or remove your EV from the Applicable Charging Station at your expense.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that EV Charging (including any in-App information relating to the status of any EV Charger or Applicable Charging Station), the EV Chargers or the Applicable Charging Stations will always be available for use or free from faults.
The kilowatt capacity displayed at an EV Charger represents the maximum possible kilowatt output of the EV Charger. At times, the actual kilowatt output may be lower than the maximum kilowatt output for reasons outside our control, including faults or restrictions in the grid or technical issues.
We may subcontract or delegate the performance of any of our responsibilities under these Z EV Charging special terms.
Liability
Without limiting any of your rights or our obligations under any law, Z will not be liable to you for any loss or damage to your EV or other property caused by electricity surges when using an EV Charger. Z will not be liable to you for any loss or damage you may suffer in connection with your use of an EV Charger or an Applicable Charging Station, except for reasonably foreseeable direct loss or damage to your physical property caused by Z’s negligence or wilful breach of these Z EV Charging special terms.
To the maximum extent allowable by law, the total liability of us to you in any 12 month period under or in relation to these Z EV Charging special terms, will be limited to $1000, whether or not the liability is caused by the failure, or negligence, of us or by any third party controlled by us.
To the maximum extent allowable by law, you agree to indemnify us in respect of any claims, legal proceedings, damages, liabilities, losses or expenses brought against Z as a result of your breach of these Z EV Charging special terms, or your use of an EV Charger or Applicable Charging Station.
Relationship with network companies
If we receive compensation from the relevant network company or another third party for losses that result from an interruption to electricity supply while you are using EV Charging, we will pass that on to you, noting that where applicable we may choose how to fairly allocate compensation across our affected customers.
If you suffer a loss or damage because of something the network company does or does not do, you can only claim from us what we can recover from the network company, and that is applicable to you.
Each network company has excluded or limited liability to you and to us. Unless the agreement we have with a network company provides otherwise, all liability any network company may have to you is excluded, as much as the law allows.
If you damage network company equipment or distribution, you may be able for any damage you cause. If a network company suffers direct loss or damage which is caused or contributed to by your fraud, dishonesty, or wilful misconduct, you will be liable to make good that loss or damage. The provisions of these Z EV Charging special terms that are also intended for the benefit of the network company and are enforceable against you by each relevant network company under the Contract and Commercial Law Act 2017.
Changes to EV Charging or these terms
We may make changes and improvements to EV Charging, including through the release of new updates, modifications and enhancements to the App, changes to the terms under this section headed “Z EV Charging special terms”, and in some cases, we may discontinue features or remove Applicable Charging Stations. We will notify you via the email you used to register for the Z App and/or (if enabled) a Z App notification within 30 days of any material changes that may adversely impact how you interact with the App or Applicable Charging Stations.
Complaints
If you have a complaint, you should tell us as soon as possible. Please contact our customer support team in the first instance. Our complaints process is free. Once we have received your complaint, we will reply to you within 2 working days to confirm we have received it. We will also decide whether we think your complaint is related to network company services, or our service.
If we think that your complaint is related to network company services, we will liase with the relevant company and work with them to manage and resolve your complaint. If we think your complaint is related to our service then from there we will contact you directly to work through the issue with you, and continue to update you via email.
We will monitor your complaint progress regularly to ensure we resolve it with you as soon as possible. We aim to resolve all complaints within 20 working days. If it takes us longer than 20 working days to resolve your problem, then we will contact you to let you know why, how much longer it will take, and to discuss your options
If you're not satisfied:
- Z Energy Limited is a member of Utilities Disputes Scheme, which is a free and independent complaints resolution scheme. If for some reason you are dissatisfied about the resolution of your complaint, or we cannot resolve your complaint or problem within 20 working days, you can take your complaint to Utilities Disputes: www.utilitiesdisputes.co.nz Free Phone: 0800 22 33 40
- You can also take your complaint to the courts or the Disputes Tribunal.
Pay by plate and pay in app special terms
Pay by plate and pay in app are exciting features available at select Z service stations. This section describes what they're all about, how to use them, and other important terms and conditions.
Pay by plate
Pay by plate connects your vehicle number plate with your Aotearoa New Zealand bank credit or debit card, your Z Business fuel card, or your Sharetank account.
When our on-site cameras recognise and authenticate your vehicle’s number plate, we will automatically unlock the pump for you, and will deduct the cost of the fuel from your linked card (or Sharetank). Please note that we can’t guarantee that our cameras will always recognise your vehicle’s number plate.
Pay in app
Pay in app also allows you to unlock the pump using Z App, and pay for your fuel from the comfort of your car. The pay in app feature may be used if the pay by plate feature is unavailable.
Where they're offered
Pay by plate and pay in app are offered at participating stations only. Some Z stations may not offer pay by plate, but may still offer pay in app. Stations that participate may change at any time, without notice.
Getting set up
To use pay by plate and pay in app, you must follow the registration process in the App. This includes providing us with the following information:
- Your valid and non-expired Aotearoa New Zealand-issued credit card, debit card, or your valid and non-expired Z Business fuel card, or (If you wish to use Sharetank) your Sharetank details.
- The number plate of the vehicle you wish to be registered for pay by plate and pay in app transactions.
- The correct fuel type for the relevant vehicle.
- Select if you would like to be asked before unlocking the pump.
- Any other detail as required by Z from time to time.
If you don’t correctly input or complete the details required for registration, pay by plate and/or pay in app may be unavailable for use, and we take no responsibility for this.
You authorise us to use our forecourt camera(s) to read and record your registered licence plates for the purpose of providing you the pay by plate service.
Your account
You may have only one pay by plate/pay in app account at any time on the App. However, you may register as many licence plates as you like, and up to 5 payment methods within your account.
We may remove dormant accounts
In addition to our other rights to suspend or terminate accounts, we may suspend or terminate accounts that we consider have had so little use that they are ‘dormant’.
How to use pay by plate
- When you're ready to fuel your vehicle, drive into any lane at a participating Z station.
- Wait for the forecourt camera to recognise the registered number plate of your car, and for the pump screens to display the words ‘Kia ora [customer name]' (or similar words).
- IMPORTANT! If you have not been presented with the ‘Kia ora’ screen after approx. 15 seconds of arriving in the fuel lane, you will need to pay for your fuel through the pay in app feature, pay at pump, or in store.
- Once the ‘Kia ora’ message is displayed, the pump will unlock, ready for you to dispense fuel. After you have finished dispensing fuel, hang up the pump.
- If you have hung up the pump correctly, the pump screen will display a 'Thanks for Visiting' message (or similar words), and a confirmation ‘push’ notification message will be sent to your app. You will also be emailed a receipt to the email address associated with your Z App account.
How to use pay in app
- Open the App. You will be prompted to confirm which pump you wish to unlock.
- Confirm which pump you wish to unlock and wait for the transaction start screen in your App to appear.
- IMPORTANT! If you have not been presented with the transaction start screen after approx 15 seconds of arriving in the fuel lane, you will need to pay for your fuel through pay at pump or in store.
- Once you see the transaction start screen, the pump will unlock, ready for you to dispense fuel. After you have finished dispensing fuel, hang up the pump.
- If you have hung up the pump correctly, you will see the transaction successful screen, and a confirmation ‘push’ notification message will be sent to your app. You will also be emailed a receipt to the email address associated with your Z App account.
How to know when my transaction is complete
You must make sure you see the ‘Thanks for Visiting’ message after you have hung up your pump, or if you are using pay in app you will see the transaction successful screen in your app. You should also receive a push notification and emailed receipt to confirm that your transaction has processed correctly.
IMPORTANT! Otherwise, the pump may continue to distribute fuel to other customers, which will be charged against your account. We are not responsible for this.
Whether we approve pay in app and pay by plate requests is entirely our decision. The relevant request will lapse if fuel does not start being dispensed from the selected pump within a time out period that starts when the relevant ‘Kia ora' screen is displayed and ends after a duration we determine.
You may make a maximum of three pay by plate/pay in app transactions (actual or attempted) within a 24-hour period.
Cancelling a request
You may cancel a pay by plate or pay in app request for any reason up until fuel begins to be dispensed by lifting and lowering the Selected Pump handle.
Pay by plate for motorbikes
You can use pay by plate to refuel motorbikes. However, the automatic plate recognition part of the App may not always be available (for example, if your motorbike does not have a rectangular number plate or is not positioned so that it can be read by Z’s cameras at the site).
Entering the correct licence plate number
Please be careful when you input licence plate numbers into the App. You assume all responsibility for the accuracy of the number plates of the vehicles you input into the App.
IMPORTANT! If you input number plates inaccurately, then the cost of fuel dispensed to the vehicle bearing that number plate will be charged to your payment card, and we are not responsible for this.
Selecting the right pump
If you are using pay by plate or pay in app, you will be prompted to select the pump you wish to dispense fuel from. Be careful to select the right pump for you. If you select the wrong pump, you may be charged for fuel dispersed from that pump. We are not responsible for this.
Your account
You are responsible for all transactions made against any number plates registered to your pay by plate/pay in app account.
IMPORTANT! Deleting the Z App from your mobile device DOES NOT de-register licence plates from your account, meaning that you (or the person using the relevant car) may still receive the pay by plate service.
If you sell your car, or if your car is stolen, you should immediately de-register the licence plate of the relevant car from your pay by plate account. If you do not remove the sold vehicle’s licence plate from your account, the person using the car may end up charging a pay by plate transaction to your account. In this case, you are responsible for removing the licence plate from your account and arranging a refund with the new owner.
De-registering licence plates from pay by plate
To de-register a licence plate from pay by plate, you must follow the process set out in the pay by plate/pay in app section of the App.
What we are not responsible for
IMPORTANT! To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for, and are under no obligation to, reverse charges that you did not intend to be charged to your payment card, including charges resulting from:
- you entering an incorrect number plate when registering to use pay by plate or pay in app
- you not correctly hanging up the selected pump’s handle after fuelling is complete
- you selecting the wrong pump (when using the pay in app feature)
- your car being used by someone else
- stolen plates being used to drive through pay by plate
Your payment cards
The Z App may not be compatible with all payment cards. You can check whether your card is permitted by attempting to input its details when registering for pay by plate and pay in app.
You authorise us to conduct a validation check of your payment card or cards you input during the registration process. If the validation check is unsuccessful for any reason (for example, if your card has expired) you will not be able to register that card to the Z App.
Expired, lost, or stolen payment cards
If your mobile device or your physical card is lost or stolen you must immediately cancel all digital occurrences of your card registered to your account. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Registering your card in the App creates a ‘card not present’ digital occurrence of your physical card. While you have a payment card registered in the App, if your physical card is cancelled or expires, the payment card registered on your account will also be cancelled or expired and pay in app and pay by plate payments will be not able to be made.
Using Z Business Fuel Cards with pay by plate and pay in app
If you use a Z Business fuel card for pay in app or pay by plate there is no ability for an odometer reading to be recorded, and no PIN will be required. Z Business fuel cards that require a PIN or odometer should not be used with pay by plate or pay in app.
Before a pay by plate or pay in app transaction is authorised by the App, a check is done to make sure that the Z Business fuel card is not over its designated limit. However, it is possible that a Z Business fuel card will be under its designated limit before the transaction, but the purchase could cause the limit to be exceeded. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are operating within the limit of your Z Business fuel card.
Where you use a Z Business fuel card as the payment card, any restrictions set up by the account holder as to the type of fuel that can be purchased will also apply to the relevant transaction. If you select a type of fuel in the App that is not authorised by the account holder, the transaction will be declined.
If you have registered your Z Business fuel card for pay by plate and pay in app, you will be bound by the Z Business Terms and Conditions in addition to these terms.
Pre-authorisation holds
You authorise a pre-authorisation hold against your credit card account (for credit cards) or bank account (for debit cards) or Z Business account (for Z Business fuel cards) or Sharetank litres, equal to the pay by plate/pay in app purchase limit you have set in the Z App (including GST). A pre-authorisation hold will be made each time you authorise payment using a payment card for pay by plate or pay in app.
You give authorisation for a pre-authorisation hold when a vehicle with a registered number plate is driven into a fuel lane at any participating Z retail site, as well as each time you use or attempt to use the pay in app feature for that number plate.
Multiple pre-authorisation holds may occur from time to time. You should contact the issuer of your payment card (including us, in the instance of Z Business fuel cards) for any queries regarding these. If a pre-authorisation hold is not granted for any reason (for example, insufficient funds are detected, or your credit limit would be exceeded), you will not be able to proceed with your transaction.
We are not responsible for, and have no influence over, the time it takes for your bank (who issued your payment card) to release a temporary hold or pre-authorisation hold. If you have any queries on this, we suggest you contact the issuer of your payment card.
Pumped discounts with pay by plate and pay in app
The Pumped daily discount will be applied to every pay by plate and pay in app transaction, where you pay using a bank card linked to your App (unless you choose to stack and meet the required minimum spend for stacking). You can choose to stack at Z when using Z App or an Airpoints™ card.
For the terms associated with the Pumped Daily Discount and loyalty programme, see Pumped terms and conditions. Please note that the Pumped discounts do not apply to fuel redeemed using Sharetank.
Stacking Pumped discounts with pay by plate and pay in app
You can manually set a stacking preference by following the process in the App. Discounts will only stack if you meet the minimum spend requirements for stacking outlined in the Pumped terms and conditions or as otherwise specified by Z. Please note that if you choose to stack, discounts will automatically stack ongoing if you do this by Z App or Airpoints™ card.
Earning Flybuys or Airpoints Dollars™ on pay by plate and pay in app transactions
You can earn either Flybuys (until 11:59pm on 31 October 2024) or Airpoints Dollars on your purchases, provided that you first add your loyalty card details to the App.
To earn loyalty points, you must pay using a debit, credit card, or Z Business fuel card. Loyalty points earned through Z Business fuel card payments are earned by the account holder, who may not necessarily be the card holder.
Please note that loyalty points are not earned when you use Sharetank with pay by plate or pay in app. You can register Flybuys (until 11:59pm on 31 October 2024) and Airpoints card details for purchases but you can only have one active at a time. Please note that when you earn Flybuys on purchases, any cumulative earn will only apply to future pay in app and/or pay by plate fills, not standard lane fills.
Using Sharetank with pay by plate and pay in app
Sharetank is compatible with pay by plate and pay in app. Please note you will still need to have a valid credit or debit card or Z Business fuel card registered in the App.
Sharetank special terms
Sharetank is a virtual tank that you can fill anytime, anywhere, and share with up to five friends or whānau! This section outlines what Sharetank is all about, how to use Sharetank, and other important terms and conditions.
Using Sharetank
- To pre-purchase fuel using Sharetank, you must follow the process on the Z App. You will be required to input your Mastercard, Visa debit card, or credit card details. Other payment cards or Z fuel cards (including Z Business) currently cannot be used with Sharetank.
- When you are ready, fuel-up at any participating Z station. To apply your Sharetank balance against your fuel, scan your unique Sharetank QR code at the in-store register, or (if available) on the outdoor payment terminal.
- Fuel purchased on Sharetank does not expire, but you must use your Sharetank Balance within a reasonable period of time after purchase.
Viewing your Sharetank balance
The fuel you purchase on Sharetank is depicted in the App as a virtual fuel balance in litres, not dollars. You can apply this balance against fuel at any participating Z service station.
There is no dollar value associated with the Sharetank Balance. Sharetank Balances cannot be sold, refunded, transferred or exchanged for cash. Your Sharetank Balance is not a representation of the fuel balance in your vehicle.
Changes we may make to Sharetank
Sharetank may be changed or discontinued at any time. We will endeavour to give reasonable prior notice of any material changes to Sharetank. If Sharetank is discontinued, we will give you as much notice as possible (and not less than 30 days) via the email used to register for Z App and/or (if enabled) a Z App notification. This notice will alert you to the time frame available to draw down any remaining Sharetank balances. You will have a reasonable time from the date new litres are no longer able to be purchased, being a minimum of 90 days, to drawdown your remaining unused Sharetank balance. Any Sharetank balances not completely drawn down at the expiry of the notice period may be forfeited.
From time to time, we may offer our Z App users free bonus rewards, which may include bonus Sharetank litres. The recipients of bonus rewards and the quantity of these bonus rewards will both be determined by us at our sole discretion. We may also choose not to give out bonus rewards.
Sharetank’s capacity restrictions
You can add up to 1,000 litres of fuel to your Sharetank balance in any single transaction. The balance of each fuel grade in in your Sharetank account cannot exceed 1,200 litres. Your Sharetank purchases cannot exceed 12,000 litres per fuel grade over a 12-month period.
Other Sharetank exclusions and restrictions
Sharetank litres cannot be redeemed in conjunction with any other Fuel discounts or offers (such as Pumped discounts). Sharetank cannot be used at Z truck stops.
If you apply your Sharetank balance at the outdoor payment terminal on the pump, then you will only be authorised to pump the actual amount of your Sharetank Balance or 100 litres, whichever is lower.
Suspending or terminating your use of Sharetank
In addition to our other rights in these terms, we may suspend your use of Sharetank, hold or reverse any transaction if we have reason to believe that you or any third party using your account misuses our service or is dishonest.
Using Sharetank with pay by plate and pay in app
You may apply Sharetank litres to pay by plate and pay in app transactions, if you have set this up as an option in the App.
You may also enable settings in the pay by plate/pay in app section of Z App so that a Sharetank balance is only used when the weighted average cost of the Sharetank balance is lower than the pump price. If you haven’t set up this option, your backup payment method will be used when the pump price is lower than the weighted average cost of the Sharetank balance.
IMPORTANT! You need at least 15L in your Sharetank to use it with pay by plate / pay in app. If you have less than 15L, pay by plate / pay in app will always use your backup payment method.
Receipts
You will be emailed a GST receipt after each Sharetank fuel purchase within the App. Receipts issued at the time of redemption at a Z Station will not include GST amounts for tax purposes.
The ‘lowest Z pump price in your area’ guarantee
Sharetank’s ‘lowest Z pump price in your area’ guarantee offers you the lowest Z pump price within a 30km radius, for each grade of fuel. Where there are no Z Stations offering that fuel grade within a 30km radius, Sharetank will offer you the nearest Z pump price across all grades.
Accessing the ‘lowest Z pump price in your area’ offer
Sharetank’s ‘lowest Z pump price in your area’ guarantee uses location services on a customer’s mobile device.
- If you do not enable location services, you will be unable to purchase any Fuel through Sharetank.
- Z will use your mobile device’s location as determined by the device’s operating system. You must not interfere with the device settings in a manner that could provide incorrect location information. If we detect that such interference has occurred, we may suspend the Sharetank account and/or reverse a particular Fuel purchase.
- IMPORTANT! Sharetank’s 'lowest Z pump price in your area' guarantee excludes all Z truck stops and does not reflect other Z discounts and/or price promotions (such as Pumped programme discounts).
The Proactive Price Guarantee
Sharetank offers a ‘proactive price guarantee’. You will be informed by the customer service representative in the Z Station or electronically via Z App or outdoor payment screen when paying at the pump that the current pump price at that Z Station is lower than the merged Sharetank purchase price.
The merged price is calculated as the weighted average purchase price of Sharetank litres, per fuel grade. You may then choose to pay by another means or draw down on your available Sharetank Balance.
In the instance where you redeem a Sharetank Balance using pay by plate or pay in app, the settings that apply within your pay by plate/pay in app account will apply and determine whether the Sharetank Balance is used or the authorised payment card stored in the Z App.
If you are eligible for a discount on the pump price then you will need to determine whether you should use your Sharetank Balance or pay by another means at the discounted pump price available to you.
How your Sharetank savings are calculated
Your fuel savings vary with each Sharetank redemption. Every time litres are removed from your Sharetank balance, we take your weighted average Sharetank price (WASP) and compare to the pump price (the non-discounted price on the price-board) at the time when you redeem.
The WASP itself is updated every time you add litres to your Sharetank balance. We take the price you paid on that day, plus the value of the pre-paid litres already in your Sharetank. As you buy litres at different price points, we work out the weighted average price of fuel you paid on that fuel grade.
Part-paying for fuel with Sharetank
You can only part pay with Sharetank if you have used your entire Sharetank balance and there is still money owing on your transaction.
IMPORTANT! Z Business Card Terms & Conditions don’t allow you to part-pay for fuel, which includes Sharetank transactions.
Sharing Sharetank with others
You can invite up to five people to share your Sharetank balance by sending a unique code associated with your account to the invitee. The invitee enters the code into their Z App to request access to your Sharetank balance. When you confirm an invitee, the Sharetank balance becomes shared with that invitee. You must not charge any sort of fee or price to an invitee.
Maximum number of invitees
If you are the Sharetank administrator, you can send more than five Sharetank invitations, but only the first five that you confirm will be granted access to the Sharetank.
Making changes to Sharetank membership
If you are the Sharetank administrator, you can make up to eight changes to the Sharetank membership within a 12-month period.
Sharetank member benefits
Each Sharetank member can access the full Sharetank balance across all fuel grades without restriction. If you invite others into your Sharetank, you accept that you are providing full access to those members to draw down on any available balance at any time.
If you join a shared Sharetank, you acknowledge that the Sharetank administrator can remove your access at any time and if access is removed you will no longer be able to view or use the shared Sharetank.
Sharetank members cannot purchase Fuel to ‘top-up’ the shared Sharetank balance.
Multiple Sharetanks
You cannot have both your own personal Sharetank and participate in a shared Sharetank. You can only participate in one Sharetank at any time.
Ending your use of Sharetank
If you no longer want to participate in Sharetank, you can stop using the Sharetank service, or draw down your Sharetank Balance to zero and remove all shared Sharetank members.
Information visible to shared Sharetank members
If you participate in a shared Sharetank and redeem fuel using the Z App you agree and acknowledge that your Sharetank transaction details will be accessible in the ‘Sharetank activity’ and ‘Sharetank top-ups’ section of Z App by other members of the shared Sharetank.
Transaction details may include: name, redemption location, fuel litres, savings versus pump price and total transaction value. If the transaction is completed at a Z pay by plate or pay in app, the transaction details will include the vehicle number plate. Transaction details may change from time to time at Z’s discretion. Payment card details remain secure and aren’t visible by Sharetank Members.
Earning Flybuys or Airpoints Dollars with Sharetank
You can earn either Flybuys (until 11:59pm on 31 October 2024) or Airpoints Dollars on your Sharetank purchases, provided that you first add your loyalty card details to the App. You can register both Flybuys and Airpoints card details for Sharetank purchases but you can only have one active at a time.
IMPORTANT! If a Flybuys or Airpoints account is registered against a shared Sharetank, only the Sharetank administrator will be able to earn Airpoints Dollars or Flybuys.
Please note that Airpoints Dollars or Flybuys are only earned when the Sharetank administrator purchases Sharetank litres using the App. Airpoints dollars and Flybuys are not earned when Sharetank litres are redeemed at a Z station, nor on reward or bonus Sharetank litres that are directly credited to an account.

Pre-order special terms
How pre-order works
The pre-order function allows you to order Z Espress coffee or other hot and chilled drinks online via Z App, to be picked up at a pre-determined time at participating Z stations.
Signing up to pre-order
To access the pre-order feature, you must input your valid NZ credit card or debit card details into the App, along with any other details we require from time to time. Please note that not all credit or debit cards may be usable with our pre-order coffee feature.
If you don’t correctly input or complete the details required for pre-order registration, pre-order will be unavailable for use, and we take no responsibility for this.
Allergies
Please let our Z team know by clearly communicating what you are allergic to in the “notes” field during the Z pre-order ordering process.
IMPORTANT! Our baristas will use their best efforts to meet your requirements, however Z nor our affiliates (including Z retailers) will not, to the extent permitted by law, have liability for any allergic reactions that occur from incorrect order processing or cross contamination or other such error.
Cancelling orders
Once you have pre-ordered and paid for your order, the order cannot be cancelled. You will not be entitled to a refund if you find yourself unable to collect your order after you have ordered and paid for it.
Pre-authorisation holds
Upon completion of the pre-order registration process in the App, you authorise a temporary hold against your payment card of NZ$1 (including GST). If a temporary hold is not granted for any reason, for example, if you have insufficient funds in either your credit card account or bank account, or your Z Business fuel card has exceeded its velocity or credit limit, you will not be able to proceed with your order.
Expired, lost, or stolen payment cards
If your mobile device or your physical card is lost or stolen you must immediately cancel all digital occurrences of your card registered to your pre-order coffee account. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Registering your credit or debit card in App provides for a card not present digital occurrence of your physical card. While you have a credit or debit card registered for Z pre-order in Z App, if your physical card is cancelled, or expires, the card registered on your pre-order account will also be cancelled or expired and pre-order payment will be not able to be affected.
Deleting or removing card details
You can delete or re-add a credit or debit card by removing their current Z pre-order registration and completing the Z pre-order registration process again.
