Z Energy, New Zealand Police, and NZTA remind Kiwi to travel safely this Labour Weekend
October 24, 2025
Z Energy (Z), alongside New Zealand Police and New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) are reminding drivers to be safe on our roads this long weekend.
As we head into Labour Weekend, and with an increased number of cars expected on the road, Z is encouraging all drivers to be careful, pay attention, and look out for others so that everyone can arrive at their destination safely.
Superintendent Steve Greally, Director of Road Policing says Police will be out anywhere and at any time to prevent and deter road users from any dangerous behaviours.
“Our officers will be taking no chances with motorists who are endangering the lives of others. If you are driving in a way that puts your own, or someone else’s, safety at risk, expect there to be consequences.
“Together with our road safety partners a large amount of work has been undertaken all year round and not just on long weekends to ensure everyone on our roads remains safe.
“Many of us make long journeys over long weekends. We know that tired drivers make mistakes, so take regular breaks and split the driving with someone if you can.”
Haley Mortimer, Z’s GM Corporate Affairs, says that with over 160 retail sites across Aotearoa and around one million customer visits each week, Z has a unique platform to promote important messages that help keep people safe.
“As a transport energy company serving Kiwis every day, road safety is something we take seriously – especially during busy travel periods like long weekends. Our partnership with NZ Police, and NZTA enables us to use our nationwide footprint to deliver timely, seasonal safety messaging directly through our retail network.
We’re incredibly proud to be part of communities across Aotearoa, and this initiative is one meaningful way we can give back”, continues Haley.
Superintendent Greally says we know of the four biggest contributors to deaths and serious injuries on roads and it’s important to remind drivers of these dangers and the support Z provide is vital in sharing the responsibility of road safety.
“Having your seatbelt on, not driving impaired by alcohol, drugs or fatigue, not being distracted while driving and adhering to speed limits can be the difference in whether you walk away from a crash, being seriously injured or worse.”
Alongside New Zealand Police, and NZTA, Z is committed to road safety and ensuring our customers reach their destinations safely.
